Happy Mother's Day
God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers . ~Jewish Proverb
On this Mother’s Day, we wish to honor all of our moms, who strive endlessly to raise their children with a sense of worth, direction and purpose. It is not always such an easy task, as I’m sure my mother would attest to. There is not a job out there that is more hands-on or more fulfilling than being a mom. Motherhood is, at times, both frustrating and thankless. But it is also the most rewarding job around. Moms are our first love. And you know what they say; you never get over your first love.
Mothers set the example for the whole family to follow, no matter what the circumstances. We don’t always agree with mom, that much is certain; perhaps to our way of thinking, mom could be downright mean. But instinctively, we all knew that no matter what mom did or said, she had our best interests in mind. It may have taken some of us longer than others to figure that out, but eventually, we all finally understand. Moms have a capacity to love that knows no bounds, recognizes no limitations and can encompass the world. If only the world could love like mom.
I received a copy of the following letter on the first Mother’s Day after my mother passed away. Needless to say, I saw my mother in this letter, bringing both a tear and a smile to my face. After sharing it with my children, they too, saw their mom in these words. I happily share it with you today. I do not know the name of the author and have seen it posted on the elsewhere on the internet, always without an author's name. I wish to thank who ever it was, most sincerely.
So, this is for all you Moms.
We Love You.

Great hub!
True-often Mother's who try to instill work ethic-God-responsiblity-morals-values are looked at as being "mean." Many parents want to be 'friends' with their young children when the job is to be 'teacher-parent.'I remember long ago, one of my children saying "I hate you!" and I also remember my response. "You hate me? Because I am making you do the right things? Good-than it means that I am doing my job. We can be friends later." Did I mean it? Yup.
Well let's just say that there are some Mom's out there that truly are mean, destructing of the very one's they brought into the world. (mean in a different way) and only care for themselves and care very little for the happiness of their own children. Sad but true.
You sound like a great Mom and a mean mom for the right reasons lol!
Happy Mother's day! Enjoy your day!!!
Joni-great read. I love the quote (Jewish proverb) at the beginning. One of my favorites. Yes, you and I are cut from the same cloth...back in the day, that was what moms who cared did-took their jobs seriously as a parent. Now, life is challenging in different ways and it is even more difficult to stand up to what is available in our society.
Been a MI native until 10 yrs ago & hoping to move back soon
Thanks for the wonderful hub.
i love this hub for so many reasons. you included some wonderful quotations, especially that proverb. parenting is a very tough job, that's for sure. too many parents try to do everything for their children, which doesn't teach them self-reliance or how to be a good citizen, even. i have always had a very strong work ethic, as has my son's father, and we instilled the value (and joy) a hard day's work can bring. we gave him freedom but also had a zero tolerance policy regarding drugs and alcohol. it's funny, some of his classmates whose parents believed 'kids are gonna drink and get high anyway so they might as well do it safely at home' are now still stuck at home drinking and getting high, with no job or prospects for the future.
my son doesn't have to work his way through college as his parents did, but he chooses to work on campus anyway and loves it, juggling a full-time academic load, a job, and still caring for his pet bunny and nurturing his relationship with his girlfriend. being an involved, supportive mom with high expectations is one of the best things we can do for our children, and they love you for it. thanks for this great tribute to moms.
This is an awesome inspiration-filled tribute to Moms. I enjoyed reading. Thanks for sharing!
